What does The Garden Project do?
The Garden Project helps both home and community gardeners in the Lansing/East Lansing area to grow and preserve their own fresh vegetables. We also organize gleaning surplus produce from area farms!
During the growing season, The Garden Project operates our Resource Center, which provides seeds and plant starts to registered gardeners as well as information and a tool lending library. Click on the green links above to learn more about these great opportunities!
Spotlight on Gleaning
The Garden Project’s Gleaning Program harvests surplus produce from area farms and distributes it to low income individuals and agencies that serve those in need. In 2007, The Garden Project distributed over a quarter of a million pounds of fresh, local produce to individuals in the Greater Lansing area.
The gleaning program relies on volunteers that are available weekday mornings between July and November to help with harvest. If you would like to register to help with gleaning please call (517) 887-4660 or e-mail us at gardenproject@ingham.org.
